August tour

1st - 10th August 2008

(10 days / 9 nights)

Itinerary

Day 1, Friday 1st

Your tour guides, Glenn and Cameron Broughton, will meet the group at London Heathrow airport after your overnight flight. We will travel in comfortable minibuses to our hotel in Marlborough, Wiltshire. You will have time to rest up, or take lunch and then explore this charming market town. Marlborough received its royal charter as a town 800 years ago and has a fine selection of buildings from many periods in history. It has the widest High street in England where street markets are still held. It also has Merlin's Mound, a 5,000-year-old sacred site that gives the town its name.

There is a good range of shops, cafes, restaurants, markets and pubs readily available as our hotel is situated right in the centre of town.

The hills and fields around the town are a popular venue for crop circles as is the whole countryside stretching west. The majority of crop circles each year occur within 15 miles of our hotel.

Welcome orientation and introductions followed by dinner. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2, Saturday 2nd

Attendance at the Summer Crop Circle Lectures.

This sold-out event takes place in the Town Hall in Devizes and focuses on many different aspects of crop circles and the surrounding landscape of sacred sites. During the weekend there will be presentations by twelve top international researchers and your tour guide Glenn is one of the invited panel members of the 'Big Debate' on Sunday afternoon.

Free-choice dinner not included.

Day 3, Sunday 3rd

This morning we will go into our first crop circles. You've seen the pictures and now is your chance to personally experience them first-hand. Your expert tour guides, who have been into many formations over the last ten years, will show you what to look for and how to dowse for any energies present. At various times during the tour we will be joined by some of the top crop circle researchers who will share their views, knowledge and expertise with us. What better way to learn all about this amazing phenomenon than by being in the circles in the fields and having experts on hand to guide you.

Afternoon and evening at the Summer Crop Circle Lectures.

Free-choice dinner not included.

Day 4, Monday 4th

Our itinerary will be flexible according to the locations of new crop circles and which sites are nearby. Today we visit Avebury, the heart centre of megalithic Britain. Here, within the largest stone circle in the world, we find the remains of two former stone circles, one solar and one lunar. All the sacred sites in this area centre on Avebury, including Stonehenge some twenty miles distant. Powerful earth energy currents course through this landscape and this may be one reason why the majority of crop circles occur within a 10-mile radius of Avebury. Other ancient sacred sites in the area include Merlin's Mound, Morgan's Hill, Windmill Hill and the Sanctuary.

Dinner at the hotel.

Glastonbury Tor and St Johns Church
Chalice Well
Glastonbury Abbey
Day 5, Tuesday 5th

Today is the longest day on the tour; we will spend the whole day in Glastonbury, otherwise known as the Isle of Avalon.

Rising dramatically from the flat land of the surrounding Somerset Levels, the huge natural mound of the Tor, surmounted by St. Michael's tower, has been a beacon of spirituality since pagan times and still acts as a magnet for people of all beliefs. You will hear the stories and the legends as well as experience the powerful energy and atmosphere of this sacred site. Plus the views from the top are spectacular!

We visit the beautiful and tranquil gardens of Chalice Well, one of the true healing places in this land where you are encouraged to drink from the holy well. Some believe that the Holy Grail is hidden within the wellhead. We will also visit the White Springs across the lane and note the different properties of the waters.

Glastonbury Abbey, the birthplace of Christianity in England and referred to as the 'holiest earth in England', was once the largest and most powerful abbey in all of Britain. It is no coincidence that the dual energy currents of England's most famous leyline cross at the site of the high altar. A grave in the centre of the Abbey ruins is reputed to have been the resting place of King Arthur and Guinevere.

Glastonbury is full of unusual shops selling everything from candles and incense to colourful clogs and Goddess statues that you can peruse at your leisure during a long lunch break.

We then go on to nearby Wells (just seven miles away) for an early evening stroll around this charming medieval city with its Gothic Cathedral and Bishop's Palace before having dinner in a local restaurant.

Dinner included in tour price.

Avebury
Day 6, Wednesday 6th

We will visit a crop circle this morning followed by a visit to some of the components of the Avebury Landscape Temple including the remarkable five thousand year old Silbury Hill. We will also visit West Kennet Long Barrow, an underground chamber used both as a tomb and a place of initiation, which has wonderful acoustics. Knoll Down, a tranquil sacred grove of trees, was once connected to Avebury by an avenue of stones stretching for over a mile in length.

Late afternoon visit to Michael Glickman's home. Michael has been in the forefront of crop circle research for twenty years and has seen it all. You will have heard his major presentation at the Summer Lectures and now we have personal time with him to discuss crop circles in more depth. Michael is also very entertaining and everyone loves these visits.

Free-choice dinner not included.

Stonehenge
Day 7, Thursday 7th

We start the day with an early morning visit to Stonehenge. We have arranged for the group to have private special access into the stones of the world's most famous sacred site. Touch the huge megaliths which have stood in magnificent isolation on the windswept Salisbury Plain for thousands of years, feel the pulse of powerful earth energy currents coursing beneath your feet, imagine the ceremonies which have been performed by robed priests over aeons of time or just sit in quiet meditation. This is a rare opportunity to truly experience a site revered by countless generations.

Fancy a flight?

We then have breakfast in nearby Amesbury and a chance to swap Stonehenge stories. Then, for those who choose the helicopter flight, we're off to the local airfield for a flight above the Circlemakers' exquisite cosmic works of art in small chartered helicopters - truly the high spot of the tour for many! Those not flying will be taken for personal time to explore the city of Salisbury.

Free afternoon in Marlborough. Dinner not included in tour price.

Day 8, Friday 8th

More crop circle visits and nearby sacred sites.

Dinner at the hotel.

Day 9, Saturday 9th

This final day is kept free to explore any new crop circles that may have occurred and also to allow time for last minute shopping.

Farewell Dinner at the hotel.

Day 10, Sunday 10th

Leave hotel to drive to Heathrow for return flight home.

All activities are, of course, optional and so there is scope in the itinerary to take extra free personal time.
