SALISBURY – the huge medieval cathedral was built on a 'raft' of logs to stop it sinking into the water meadows on which it was sited. The cloisters and chapter house are wonderful examples of their kind and house an original copy of the Magna Carta. The city itself has a marvelous variety of architecture spanning eight centuries.
